Winsome Benjamin "Where Birds Can't Fly"
WINSOME was born in Clarendon, Jamaica; she started singing in the church at the early age of four the stage is where she is most happy.In 1994 she migrated to Germany where she began singing as a professional.
She began touring extensively in Germany, places such as Hamburg, Bremen, Hannover, Berlin, Leipzig, Dortmund, Essen, Duesseldorf, Cologne, Frankfurt, and many other european countries like Sweden, Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, has also discovered her magnificent talent and flooded all her performances, she also appeared on many TV and Radio shows.
She is a Singer/Song Writer and arranges her songs; she also enjoys speaking the German Language. Her repertoire includes Gospel, Inspirational, Soul and Love songs. She is very dedicated to her occupation and is presently working on her new album.
Winsome has shared stage with artistes such as Inner Circle, Hip Hop Bobby Valentino, Lady G, Doug E Fresh , Etana, Alaine, Cecile, Machel Mantano, Daville, Chevelle Franklyn, Calypso Rose, BB Seaton, Ken Boothe, Ernie Smith, Junior Tucker, Papa San, John Holt, Lt. Stichie, Ken Lazarus, Leroy Sibbles, Dwight Pinkney, Boris Gardener, A.J. Brown, Gregory Isaacs , Dean Frazer, Buju Banton, just to name a few.
Winsome Benjamin now managed by Clifs Enterprise Corp is peaking in her career, Performing in Canada, The Cayman Island, Guyana, and in the U.S.A. She recently performed with Mr.”Knocking on Heavens Door” Ed Robinson on the International Reggae and World Music Awards at the World famous Apollo Theater Harlem, USA. She also performed in Chicago at the Festival of Life July 4-8 at Washington Park and was blessed with presents of Pop Star R&B singer R. Kelly

1. What is the meaning of your name? Meaning of Winsome: Winning, Pleasant, Attractive, "an attractive personality"; Engaging, Endearing, Appealing, Pleasing, to the eye or mind especially through beauty or charm
Word History: Winsome people easily win friends, so it is not surprising that winsome and win have a common root. Their shared element win- comes from the Indo-European root *wen-, meaning "to desire, strive for," and has a number of descendants in the Germanic languages. One was the prehistoric Germanic noun *wini- meaning "friend" (literally, "one who desires or loves" someone else), which became wine in Old English and is preserved in such names as Winfred, "friend of peace," and Edwin, "friend of (family) possessions." A different form of the root with a different suffix became Old English wynn, "pleasure, joy," preserved in winsome. Finally, the verb win itself is from this root; its meaning is an extension of the sense "to strive for," namely, "to strive for with success, to be victorious."
Meaning of Benjamin: in the Bible, the youngest son of Jacob and Rachel and father of the smallest tribe of Israel, Hebrew meaning son of the south or son of the right hand.
2. What does your music bring to the reggae genre? My music brings today the true everyday lifestyle to the reggae industry, I see so many unhappy faces today that are living behind a painted smile, I see heartache and loneliness dressed up in modern style, who are just waiting to hear or see something with a difference the hearts of people becomes hardened because of the same old same old nonsense they are presented with everyday, and as a result, today people are basically only existing and not really living
I become sad at time when I would want to go some place for a good dance that the only kind of music that i can rely on are those from way back in the 60s and 70s those who we claim influenced us, but is that true because hardly there is a newly written song from a younger artiste that make sense these day, no more soothing or melodious sound, we can be happy if it last for ten minutes. So this is why I literally choose this path to deliver good clean and melodious music that will make a difference and my grandmothers and great grandchildren will be able to listen to even long when i am gone.
3. Who influenced you? And what is your motivation? There are a few local and international artistes whom I look up to, I have taken so many pages out of their books that by now their books must be empty, be it male or female, these are they that motivates me and gives me renewed strength everyday to keep it uncomplicated and authentic, some are still alive while some are no longer with us, they are true legends such as Gladys Knight, Patti Labelle, Betty Wright, Cynthia Schloss, Pam Hall, Teddy Pendergrass, Stevie Wonder, Ernie Smith, Michael Jackson, Al Green, Whitney Houston, and Erica Badu who reminds me to be myself and that that there is nothing wrong with being unique.
4. What do you see as the future of reggae and music in general?
I have to remind myself daily that our generation is changing with the time, so in general there will be a big difference in almost everything we see and hear, and improvement/development is good for any growing nation or society, the fact that we now have better education infrastructure than yesteryears, is a plus because our young ones will be so much more educated an equipped that I would want to hope that these special effort will make a significant difference in what will become of the new age reggae/music. This will bring notable change even to a level where grammatically the entire world will be able understand and appreciate reggae/music a lot more.
5. Playing or recording what do you prefer?As a musician your profession require all senses, I have to be very open minded and willing to work the industry to its fullest and try not to limit myself to any given task so whether it be playing or recording I would want to take so much pride in perfecting it so much that you almost can’t even tell which I am better at. However the stage is where I come alive, that’s where I can truly get the attention of my audience there I am in control so the fact that I can dominate the stage, I will only accompany myself at home with the playing of my piano and my guitar and leave the real sound to a group of professional talented musician both locally and internationally to bring out the finest sound in my music some of which are musicians like Desi Jones (Drummer/Producer/Arranger), Rohan Reid (Bass and Guitar), Christopher McDonald (Keyboards), Michael Kenndy (Bass), Dale Brown (Bass), Dean Fraser (Saxophone), Denver Smith (Percussions), Alex Martin-Blamkin (Producer/keyboards), Keith Francis (Bass) Wayne Armond (Guitar) Othneil Lewis (keyboards). Along with the most wonderful Engineer any singer could want to work with Marvin “eeem” Jackson I thank them so much for making my fourteen track album “Where Birds Can’t Fly” a great success. Thanks guys for the big boost of confidence.
6. Please tell the folks what you would like them to know.
